• Change begins with collective individualism - Let’s bring that together! #EachforEqual

Authored by Alok Ohrie, President and Managing Director, India, Dell Technologies

Imagine a world where Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) is not just a topic of discussion but a norm - where women and men have equal opportunities to succeed– this is the future that we must strive for.
Every individual has a part to play and can make a difference in their own way. Every action, reaction, conversation that we exhibit and reflect, holds the power to impact the society at large. Hence, we can bring a positive change, collectively; and together we can create a world where everyone can thrive, without any differences.

At Dell Technologies, we advocate a culture to define one’s individual self and further strengthen the belief of D&I. We are on a continuous journey strengthening our diversity, through inclusion and equality initiatives with an aim to reach higher levels of innovation and ideation. We have been focusing on eradication of gender bias-based barriers, empowerment of women and ensuring that there is a parity in opportunities and rewards.

The new decade represents unmissable opportunities to achieve gender equality for women of all social strata. According to McKinsey, the economic impact of achieving gender equality in India is estimated to be $700 billion of added GDP by 20251. And we are getting there slowly, but surely!

Syncing with International Women’s Day 2020 – Together Towards ‘Collective Individualism’

With this year’s International Women’s Day theme being #EachForEqual, and with the slogan “An equal world is an enabled world”, we at Dell Technologies have been pushing the envelope on Diversity and Inclusion, while establishing gender equal workplaces. We have been organizing dynamic initiatives to train, upskill and mentor women tech enthusiasts, while empowering women to achieve their professional goals2.
Several initiatives are being undertaken by Dell Technologies in India to make the gender divide obsolete and bring out individuality. Some of the key initiatives that I would like to highlight are:

    • DWEN - The launch of the first India chapter of Dell Women’s Entrepreneur Network in Bangalore, where the event witnessed over 45 women entrepreneurs, influencers and women leaders who got together to discuss the possibilities and opportunities of women entrepreneurship in India.

    • As part of Dell Strategic Giving, there is a strong focus on inclusive growth covering atleast 50% of the beneficiaries who are girls/women across programs aimed at improving WASH infrastructure and facilities, providing career counselling and employment-based skilling opportunities. Over ~2 million girls/women have been directly or indirectly impacted through Dell’s Strategic Giving programs in 2019.

    • Dell runs a Girl Child Education Initiative in India, as part of which, in the academic year of 2020-2021, we have supported and sponsored scholarships for 800+ students across academics, sports and health-hygiene facets.

    • Moreover, to promote healthy community, Dell Technologies also brings forth Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), which are communities designed for employees to connect on common interests and causes such as gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation and backgrounds.

    • The results substantiate our efforts and collective action towards girl child education - In academic year of 2020-2021 we have support and sponsorship for 800+ students in academics, sports and health-hygiene facets, one of our ERGs, WIA (Women in Action) is committed to mentor 1,000 girls every 1,000 days across PAN India through structured skill based mentoring program to help girl students in acquiring Employability Skills.

    • Dell remains committed to retain and grow talent through a host of programs such as RISE, Empowering Leaders Coaching Program, Emerging Women Leaders, EDGE and the EDGE TECH.

Your individuality is what defines your power!

Our moonshot goal is that by 2030, 50% of our global workforce and 40% of our global people leaders will be women3.

At Dell Technologies, we focus on empowering all – regardless of gender or any difference. We create spaces at the table for everyone; advocating, mentoring and giving equal opportunity to all the deserving. And, on this International Women’s Day, we shoutout to all the women out there who are defying the norms and succeeding on their own terms.
To all the women - your individuality is what defines your power – let it shine bright and change the world for better! Let’s be #EachforEqual
