• TAKING TRANSFORMATION FURTHER AHEAD, AS WE STEP INTO THE ‘NEXT DATA DECADE’

Authored by Alok Ohrie, President and Managing Director, India, Dell Technologies

2020 is not just the beginning of a new year, but the advent of a glorious new decade. Looking back at the past decade, it is easy to realize how far we have come, and how our lives have evolved. From wide-spread internet usage to huge data generation to innovative solutions – we are surely trailblazing into the future. At present, technology innovations are paving way for solutions, which were once considered impossible. And, while the world is undergoing a digital shift, we at Dell Technologies, are proud to be an integral part of this transformation – we are making the impossible, real!

This past decade has surely seen businesses change dramatically, owing to digital innovations. The wave of digital disruption with emerging technologies has triggered advances in information and communications technology. It has altered business models and practices, in almost every sector with the deployment of technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), and more – making the business future-ready. This impact will only grow in 2020 and beyond.

Reiterating India’s Digital Journey in the Bygone Decade

Propelled by the reducing costs and rising availability of smartphones and high-speed connectivity, India is already home to the world’s second largest and fastest-growing bases of digital consumers. The country is digitizing faster than many mature and emerging economies. Hence, it is no surprise that the country’s burgeoning digital technology is expected to create $1 trillion economic value by 2025.

Though the rate of growth of digitization in India is faster than in any other country, it has scope for more. In the past couple of years, India has witnessed the mushrooming of technology innovations, from both government and private sectors alike. These include the planning of 100 smart cities, digital payments, expansionof Aadhar Card – crossing the 125 crore mark, Ayushman Bharat to cover 500 million Indians, and many other such initiatives that have technology as the backbone for citizen services.

Being the third-largest start-up ecosystem in the world with constantly improving Global Innovation Index rankings, I believe that the country’s digital economy will further deliver sustainable growth - driven by transformational innovations.

Mapping the Digital Economy in 2020 and Beyond

Strategizing for a sustainable growth has become imperative for organizations, owing to the evolutions in business processes, economies and technology environments. Some points that push the economy further towards digital transformation are:

    • Industry 4.0 and creating technology ecosystems for intelligent enterprises

    • Winning in the present-day market and staying ahead of the competition through digital agility
    • Paving the way for sustainable growth and profitability in a VUCA world and a leadership position in the experience economy

    • Being in a digital economy, where data is more valuable than ever, it is important to unlock the value of the data asset. With the proliferation of innovative technologies, huge amount of data is being generated by organizations - at the edge all the way to the core. With an integrated data strategy, business data can be leveraged throughout an intelligent enterprise with better consistency in architectures. In fact, many organizations are exploring IT automation, while realizing the ability for data to be used as part of artificial intelligence and machine learning. Something, which I believe will become a norm in the new decade.

    • Key tech trends that will act as gamechangers for digital economies in this decade:

    1.       Simplified IT: Businesses embracing digital transformation initiations to simplify and modernize IT.

    2.       Cloud connections: From multi-cloud IT strategies to hybrid-cloud architectures, data management will top the list. 5G and Edge Computing will change the course of the cloud game.

    3.       Everything as-a-service: 2020 will witness a rapid pace of the as-a-service model, as most of the organizations are transforming their IT into software-defined and cloud-enabled models.

    4.       All at the ‘Edge’: Edge Computing is gaining prominence, with the increase in interconnectivity. This is going to expand further in this decade, placing computing power and storage capabilities right at the edge of the network.

While taking active leadership in innovation integrity and sustainable sourcing, we at Dell Technologies strive to bring true value to our partners and customers. We are better positioned in the industry to be an ideal partner for companies of all sizes looking to embark on a digital transformation journey.

    Dell Technologies and Tomorrow’s India

It is exciting to see Indian enterprises deploy and create demand for emerging technologies. It is also amazing to witness how these enterprises are evolving and adopting new ways of disrupting their own businesses, while steering to become global forces in the digital future.
The coming decade will witness more technological disruptions, with technology advances re-writing the norms of competition. And, businesses that adapt faster will become the next disruptors.

At Dell, we endeavor to bring more innovation into people’s lives in the new decade. I look forward to a future where every problem is being answered using real-time solutions; every information is derived from data insights; and every individual leads a sustainable life.
