• Inking a sustainable future

Authored by: Amalore Jude, Digital Marketing and Strategic Programs, India, Dell EMC

At the core of our existence as a world-renowned tech company lies the conviction that technology should drive human progress, as it can unlock health, happiness and prosperity, help people unleash their full potential, and most importantly, enable and promote environmental sustainability. Technology drives everything good, after all.

At Dell, our Legacy of Good Plan resonates this very idea and defines our commitment to leveraging our revolutionary technologies and expertise to do the most good for the planet and people. Devised in 2013, the Plan shapes our strategic vision for 2020—a pathway of the social as well as environmental milestones we anticipate to gain. These milestones are closely knitted with our business, offerings, and relationships.

Accumulating the best of our two legacy companies, Dell and EMC, we are now thriving ahead on our journey to 2020 in line with our Plan. We continue drawing our focus on our entire value chain, looking at our commitments, our supply chain, our people, and the environment, as well as our progress as against the 10x20 goal.

In one such endeavor in line with our Legacy of Good Plan, we have partnered with a Delhi-based start-up, Chakr Innovation, to promote environmental sustainability by curbing air-pollution without leaving any impact on the function of industries.

Chakr Innovation’s innovative technology, Chakr Shield, is a device that can be retrofitted on diesel generators and can capture ~90% of particulate matter emission. Created using a novel capturing method, it is a one-of-its-kind device that controls pollution without causing any adverse impact on the engine’s performance or the environment.

In our partnership with Chakr Innovation, we, at Dell, have installed these devices for the diesel generators across Dell offices all over the country. Once these diesel soot are collected and transformed into ink, the ink is further used for printing on packages and laptop boxes at the Dell factory in Chennai. We use this recycled ink for most of the printing purposes on most of our product boxes.

With the intent to convey our sustainability message as well as showcase our partnership with Chakr Innovation, we have recently organized an experiential event in Bangalore. The event witnessed the participation from professionals from diverse backgrounds who emphasized the urgent need to integrate economic, social, and environmental concerns into companies’ business operations.

At the event, budding fashion designer, TaheraPeeran, spread the green message by showcasing her khadi collection, hand-painted with POINK - short for pollution into ink, while artist, N Ponnappa, did a live cartooning session revolving around the theme of recycling and issue of air pollution.

    Our promise

With a world of initiatives, we are now growing stronger and stronger on our ambitious plan and investing our expertise and technology to do more good for the society. In the coming time, while we aim at taking our business higher, we will stay true to our Legacy of Good commitments through more such partnership and events.
