• Making IT Real in India: Building a Digital Future

Authored by Alok Ohrie, President & Managing Director, India Commercial, Dell EMC

IT today, globally, has transformed from being a simple hardware driven conversation to effecting change in business models and expanding into new horizons for business. And these changing nuances of transformation is across the landscape – be it government or enterprises. The aim is simple: Ensuring that economic and social inclusion are realized faster throughout the country. Right from SMEs, enterprises, startups to government, everyone and every industry is gradually adopting digitization to enhance their business efficiency, gain competitive edge, and offer a much better experience to their customers.

The government of India has made impressive strides in harnessing the benefits of digitization by spearheading with multiple initiatives like Digital India, Skill India, Make in India, Startup India, and Smart Cities with focus on emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Blockchain, Machine Learning (ML), and Internet of Things (IoT). In short, India has embraced digital disruption on an unprecedented scale.

Backed by all these initiatives, we are witnessing a digital revolution that is ushering in transformative changes in our socio-economic areas, including digital literacy, geographic mapping, rural development, language localization, social benefits programs, farming, e-payments, e-health, and financial inclusion. Globally, India tops the digital transformation business impact scorecard (BIS).

The country is adding 110 million users of smartphones each year and all set to launch Aadhar-compliant devices with biometric authentication built into different tablets and phones. India leap-frogged mature markets and made its foray into a cashless economy. I am quite upbeat that the momentum revolving around digital transformation in India will continue unabated. A new research by Microsoft in partnership with International Data Corporation (IDC) projects that digital transformation is likely to add an estimated $154 billion to India’s GDP and increase the growth rate by 1% annually by 2021.

This incredible opportunity presents Dell Technologies with a unique opportunity to play the role of a catalyst and a partner in shaping tomorrow’s India.
